decades ago. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec has new clues in the case. >> reporter: her mother wrote on her facebook page last night, dear michaela, this could be in. she is talking about a bone fragment that was found. they tested it here at the hayward police department. the results were inconclusive. that bone now being sent to a lab in virginia. the results could take weeks. but there are some reasons to believe that that bone fragment could belong to michaela garecht. she was abducted in hayward in 1988. that bone was initially given to the family of another victim, joann hobson's remains found in a well in linden, a well where remains from victims of two serial killers dubbed the "speed freak" killers have been found. that was back in february. when hobson's family received the remains, they ordered some tests, suspicious after seeing investigators dig up the burial site with a backhoe. that testing found 28 of the bone fragments given to the family belonged to other people. at least three other people, including a child between the ages of 5 and 14. michaela was 9 when she disappeare

we are going right to cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran on the scene with the very latest. cate what can you tell us. >> reporter: i can tell you that the fire started in the squat and gobble popular restaurant here in san francisco. crews are busy battling flames. there's heavy smoke in the air. this restaurant is completely gutted. it is a complete loss for the building here. i can see already dozens of firefighters here on scene trying to tackle this fire. they have been at it for quite a while. crews say that they got the call right at around 4:00, 4:14 this morning and the fire quickly grew to three alarms. flames were shooting up as high as 10 to 20 feet. heavy smoke in the area and now they have set up a perimeter here along west portal. they have shut down as i was talking about that tunnel over here now. as far as the firefighting efforts are concerned, we are about to get an update from the public information officer to learn more. what i can tell you right now is there are a lot of confused people out here especially morning commuters as they are trying to figure out alternati

it about even. i saw a cbs poll that had him winning 50 to 30 with undecided voters. i don't try to spend a lot of time looking at polls with 25 days out, but i was very, very proud of what he did and how he comported himself on the stage last night. to communicate directly to the american people about what it is that he and president obama want to do, and quite frankly, drawing a very stark contrast with what ryan and romney would do. >> some people have called your father disrespectful by the way he treated paul ryan last night, that he was like sort of an older bully bashing a little guy around. what did you think? your dad's always been a fairly live wire when it comes to public speaking. i found him thoroughly entertaining, i have to say. do you think he overstepped the mark occasionally? does he feel that? >> not at all. i didn't feel that way at all. look, you grew up following and covering parliamentary system. this was mild from the things relative to what you've covered. >> that is true. >> in great britain. and so look, my dad says what he means, means what he says. he did it w
